Republican Attempts To Kill DACA Proves Their “Merit Immigration” Is A Lie

Day 435.

Last week our dear leader held a TV spectacle in which he tried to show his “great negotiating skills”.  He allowed the cameras to show him talk to a bipartisan group of lawmakers trying to figure out the DACA problem and immigration reform.

In the show, he contradicted himself many times.  He even got into an argument with one of his own party members over what Sen. Feinstein said during the conversation.  The one thing that he did make very clear was that if they came to him with a bipartisan fix to DACA he would sign it.

At the time he made those comments, several Senators from both parties had already been working on a bipartisan plan to do just that.  Maybe he was unaware of that work, or maybe he forgot about that work, or maybe he didn’t think it was important.  But, the fact is he said he would support and sign a bipartisan bill.

Then just a couple of days later, Senator Durbin and Senator Graham went to the White House for a meeting to lay out this bipartisan plan.  Only, dear leader was not interested in just hearing about the plan, so he called in Senators Cotton and Perdue, both “hardliners” on the immigration issue.

Both Durbin and Graham were “surprised” by the attendance of the other two Senators who were not part of the process.  But, they went ahead with their presentation anyway.  This was the meeting where dear leader made derogatory comments about Haiti and those “shithole countries” in Africa.

He was also very unhappy that the measure, although did include border security money, that money was not earmarked for his Berlin Wall.  As a result, the deal was rejected by dear leader.

He and his cronies who hate the idea that non-white people can actually immigrate into the country have been touting what they call “merit immigration”.  They claim that their “merit immigration” is not race-based.  Yet, they want to deport all of the Dreamers that have been protected by DACA.

Only, these Dreamers are the very definition of their “merit” immigration plan.  They are U.S. educated, most go on to college, several serve in our military, and they are integrated into our society as hard-working, tax paying individuals who love this country.  This is the only country they have known and they are just as American as anyone who was born here.

If dear leader and his cronies really want to establish “merit” immigration, then there is no better place to start than allowing these Dreamers to remain in the country and give them a path towards citizenship.

But, there is a problem with that path.  They just aren’t the right shade of color for Cotton, Perdue, dear leader and many other Republicans.  Otherwise, they would be holding them up as a perfect example of “merit” immigration.

Then we have dear leader denying he used the term “shithole countries”.  Although he really never said that he did not use that explicit term.  And, Perdue and Cotton can’t seem to make up their minds if he said it or not.  Cotton was the first to say “I don’t recall” the president using those words.

Then Perdue said the same thing “I don’t recall him using those words”.  Only by Sunday, he changed his mind.  He said on television that dear leader “did not use those words.  I was sitting as close as Senator Durbin and I did not hear him say that.”  Wow.  In just a couple of days he went from “not recalling” to an outright denial of the facts.

The problem is that Senator Graham, although not specifically using the words, did affirm Senator’s Durbin stance that the words were used.  And, several other lawmakers said they were told by others in the room that those words were used.  Senator Flake even said he was told that before the news leaked out into the papers.

Now, dear leader is declaring that DACA is “probably dead” and as usual he is blaming the Democrats, whom he says are not even trying to negotiate.  Which again flies in the face that they are actively negotiating in a bipartisan way with members of the Republican Senate.

It would appear that the only person who thinks DACA is dead and wants it to be dead is our dear leader.  If he really wanted to deal with immigration with “a heart” as he has claimed, then we must ask why he tried to kill it in the first place?  Why did he put the country in such a quandary?

He was the one that said if a bipartisan bill was brought to him he would sign it.  So, why isn’t he supporting the passage of this bipartisan bill and getting ready to sign it?  Because he doesn’t want it passed and he doesn’t want the Dreamers to be allowed to stay in our country, “merit” be damned.

The government is set to run out of money on Friday of this week.  DACA is something that needs to be fixed so a budget can get passed and the government not partially shut down.  But, how can we reach any agreements when we cannot depend on the dear leader to keep his word?  How can anyone expect to get anything signed by this clown if he changes his mind by the second?

Our dear leader is exhibiting nothing that would make him the “great negotiator” he claims to be.  He has only exhibited a penchant to create chaos every time he opens his mouth.  He has no idea what he even wants.  The one thing that is becoming more and more apparent is that he is not interested in an inclusive society which is what America is.  He wants a divisive society so he can continue to blame others for his failings.  And, so far, his presidency has been a total failure.

The last time the government shut down because of Ted Cruz, the stock market took a hit.  There is no reason to believe that it won’t take a hit again if it is shut down, especially if it is shut down for a period of time.

What we have is a dear leader who simply does not care.  He only wants to be in the headlines every day, and he doesn’t even care if it is good headlines or bad headlines.  Headlines about him are all that matter.

This week we will see if the Republican leadership in the Congress will finally grow a spine and do what is right and not what dear leader only wants.  We will find out if they are committed to solving our problems or to keep allowing dear leader to sow confusion and chaos.

In the past I would believe that Congressional Leadership would do what is right.  But, the limp, weak response by Paul Ryan over the “shithole” comment and Mitch McConnell’s silence about them make me believe we don’t have any Congressional Leadership today.

Every serious leader on the Republican side of the aisle has been hidden in the shadows and have given the keys to the institution over to the crazies.  They have allowed dear leader to sow seeds of division, hate, and chaos into our society.  Their silence is enabling this clown.

If the government does shut down this week the blame will fall directly on dear leader and the Republicans in Congress.  They will have failed America, again.  Actually, they are getting very good at failing America.  It has almost become their party’s motto.

And, the shirts keep marching along.
